Event description To explore the impact of parental mental illness on children and young people’s psychological, cognitive, emotional and social development from birth to adolescence 
Training objectives • What do we understand by mental health and mental illness? - how do our perceptions and public views affect parents and children? • Explore the impact of parental mental illness on children and young people’s psychological, cognitive, emotional and social development from birth to adolescence; learning from serious case reviews • Identify how parental mental illness, including self harm and personality disorder, impacts on parenting capacity and how it can be manifested and influenced by gender, ethnicity and culture • Understand about how behavioural and mental disorders are manifested in children and the effects on the parent- child relationship; thinking about child mental health. • Explore the impact added difficulties of substance misuse and domestic violence on the mental health of children. • Have an overview of risk assessment issues in terms of Safeguarding. • Brief Overview of the Mental Health act and its main parts • how do you access Ealing Mental Health Services? *What about covid 19 -has this had made a difference? *What difference has Covid -19 made to our thinking about this?
